Why You Should Visit Nerja

Nerja is a seaside resort town that is situated in the province of Malaga. It can be found on the Costa del Sol. It is a beautiful village which sits in front of a spectacular mountain range.

This town was once a fishing village, but it has been redeveloped to take advantage of the tourists that visit this region of Spain.

Beaches

Nerja is home to several beaches, however they are not the typical yellow sandy beaches that you would expect to see in Spain, they tend to have a mixture of pebbles and sand. So you may want to go to one of the beaches nearby if a regular beach is what you are looking for. However if you do want to go to a beach in Nerja, try Playazo beach, it is the longest beach in the town and is great for sunbathing or a nice walk.

Another popular beach is Burriana beach which has white sand and sparkling clean water, the mountains can be seen in the background, and they look amazing. If you do visit this beach you are in for a treat because it is home to Ayo's famous paella eatery. Make sure you get there early though because it gets busy from midday onwards.

Things to See.

If you walk down Burriana beach you'll come to the "Balcon de Europa" which is a promenade that offers an amazing view of the surrounding area, and it is set against a back drop of mountains. It is one of Nerjas most famous sites.

Another place of interest in this resort town is the Church of El Salvador which was built in the 1600's. You can clearly see the baroque and Moorish influence in the architecture.

Nerjas most famous attraction is probably its caves which are not too far from the centre of town. The caves are over 5 million years old, and have several large chambers which house loads of stalactites and stalagmites. You can also see some prehistoric wall paintings that are over 20000 years old. You'll want to make sure that you take your camera with you so that you can capture this once in a lifetime experience.

One of the caverns has been changed into a concert hall, and if you are visiting in July you can experience the festival of flamenco music, which is held here.

As you can see, there is a lot going on in Nerja, maybe you should pay it a visit.
