Bikaner Tour - Wonder of Royal Rajasthan


Bikaner is one of the important destinations of the Rajasthan travel circuit which is visited by scores of tourist from several parts of the globe. It is an important desert city which was founded in 1488 AD by Rao Bikaji, a successor of the founder of Jodhpur, Rao Jodha. It was among the important trade routes which linked the country with China and Central Asia. This destination is known for its architectural supremacy, interior decorations, well laid gardens and intricate designs of the grandiose palaces. Throughout the world people come here to enjoy the exotic camel safaris, majestic forts and colorful camel festivals which is held in the month of January.

Junagarh Fort:

Bikaner Fort is also known as the Junagarh Fort which remained unconquered till date. In the 15th century this imposing fort was built by Raja Rai Singh, General of Akbar. This fort is surrounded by high walls and deep moats. The fort can only be accessed by two important gates Surajpol and Daulatpol. The Suraj Pol or the Sun Gate is the main entrance to the fort. Red sandstone is used in construction of 37 palaces, temples and pavilions of this fort. The palaces of the fort are known for their carved balconies, towers and decorated windows. Some of the worth visiting palaces are Moon Palace, Phool Mahal, Karan Mahal, Ganga Niwas, and Vijai Mahal.

Karni Mata Temple or Deshnok temple:

This is the unique temple which is known throughout the world for its 20,000 rats that are fed, protected and worshipped here. This 600 year old temple was constructed in honour of a local deity 'Karni Mata' who used to take care of the Rajputana family. In the temple premises one can see thousands of rats moving across the marble floors or dining together in the huge metals bowls of milk, sweet and grains. The glimpse of white rat at this place is considered as a blessing from the Goddess which fulfils wishes of devotees.

Shiv Bari Temple:

It is one of the prime tourist attractions of Bikaner which is located at a distance of about 6 Kilometres from the main city. It is also referred as Laleshwar Mahadeo by the local people. This temple was built by Maharaja Doongar Singhji in the 19th Century. This temple is an architectural delight which is made up of red sand stone and visited by scores of tourists from several parts of the globe.

'Bikaneri Bhujia' a spicy savory of this place that is known throughout the world. This place is also known for its woolen shawls, blankets and colorful carpets.

Some of the other places of attractions of this place include Ganga Golden Jubilee Museum, Jain Haveli, Laxmi Niwas Palace, Lalgarh Palace and many more.
